About These Terms

These terms explain HELM's referral program and HELM credit.

They supplement the Terms of Service and, for pros, the Service Provider Terms. Where they conflict on a referral or HELM credit, these terms control. HELM, Inc. is a Delaware corporation, and the program is offered only in the United States.

Who Can Refer

Any HELM client or approved pro with an account in good standing can refer. You'll find your personal referral link and code on your Referrals page.

Who Counts as a Referral

A referral is a new person who joins HELM through your link or code:

  • A new client who signs up after opening your link (within 30 days of opening it, on the same device) or who enters your code when they sign up. A code can be added only while the account is new and before its first booking.
  • A new pro who enters your code on their application.

A person who already had a HELM account, or who was already referred by someone else, can't be referred again.

When a Referral Qualifies

  • A referred client qualifies when they complete their first booking, paid at least in part by card.
  • A referred pro qualifies when they complete their first booking on HELM, paid at least in part by card.

The reward is granted a short time after the qualifying event ends (the delay is shown on your Referrals page), and only if, at that time, the booking is still completed and paid, it has not been refunded in full, and no dispute about it is open or lost. While a dispute is open, the reward waits.

Rewards

The reward for each referral is the amount shown on your Referrals page when the referral qualifies.

  • Clients earn HELM credit.
  • Pros earn a cash bonus. Before you can earn one, you agree to these terms on your Referrals page.

HELM may set a monthly limit on the referrals that earn a reward. A reward above a limit is held for HELM to review, and HELM decides whether to grant it.

HELM Credit

HELM credit is a promotional credit. It is not cash, has no cash value, earns no interest, and is not a gift card.

  • How it's used. Your credit comes off the final charge for your future bookings, never the deposit. You can choose not to use it on a booking. Credit with the soonest expiry is used first.
  • With a promo code. You can use credit and a promo code on the same booking. The promo applies first, and credit comes off what is left.
  • Expiry. Each credit expires on the date shown on your Referrals page and in your account. Unused credit is lost when it expires.
  • Returns. If a booking you used credit on is declined, expires, or is cancelled, the credit is returned to you with its original expiry date. If the final charge turns out smaller than the credit set aside for it, the rest comes back the same way. If what you owe for a booking goes down after it's paid (for example, a receipt or overtime is removed), the credit used on it comes back first, the same way, and anything more goes back to your card. Credit is never extended. If a booking paid partly with credit is refunded, the refund goes to your card first, up to what your card paid, and any more comes back as credit.
  • No transfer. Credit can't be sold, transferred to another account, or exchanged for cash, except where the law requires otherwise.

Pro Cash Bonuses

  • Payment. A bonus is paid to your connected payout account as its own payment, usually with the next payout after it's granted.
  • Monthly limit. Your referral bonuses are limited to $500 in a calendar month (Eastern Time). A bonus above the limit is held for HELM to review.
  • Review. For the first 90 days of the program, HELM reviews each bonus before it's paid. After that, bonuses are paid automatically unless one is held for review under these terms.
  • Taxes. Bonuses are income. You are responsible for any taxes on them, and HELM or its payment processor may report them to tax authorities.

Fair Play

The program is for genuine referrals of new people. You may not:

  • refer yourself, including through another account, email address, phone number, or payment card;
  • buy, sell, or trade referral links or codes, or offer anything of value for using them;
  • post your link or code on coupon or deal sites, or advertise it with paid ads that use HELM's name;
  • send messages that break the law or the Acceptable Use Policy, including texts or emails to people who haven't agreed to receive them.

When you share your link publicly, make clear that you may earn a reward. HELM never contacts people on your behalf; you are responsible for the messages you send.

HELM checks referrals for abuse, when they sign up and again before a reward is granted. A referral that shares an email address, phone number, or payment card with the referrer is not rewarded. Email addresses that reach the same mailbox count as the same address (for example, with a "+" tag added, or for Gmail, with dots added). A payment card counts as shared if it is saved on both accounts or paid for either person's bookings. A referral that looks connected to the referrer in another way is held for HELM to review, including when the referred client's first booking is with the pro who referred them, or the referrer books the pro they referred. HELM may withhold or cancel any reward it reasonably believes breaks these terms, and may remove anyone from the program.

Refunds and Reversals

  • If a qualifying booking is cancelled, refunded in full, or lost to a dispute before the reward is granted, no reward is granted.
  • If it happens after the reward is granted, any of that credit you haven't used is cancelled, including credit set aside for a booking the pro hasn't accepted yet (that booking is then charged in full). HELM reviews credit already used and bonuses already paid, and may reverse a paid bonus, including by deducting it from a later payout.

Your Privacy

Your Referrals page shows the status of each referral. HELM does not share a referred person's bookings or payment details with the referrer. See the Privacy Policy.

Changes and Ending the Program

HELM may change the reward amounts, the limits, or these terms, or end the program, at any time. A reward already granted stays yours, and credit stays usable until its expiry date. A referral that qualifies after a change is rewarded under the terms in effect when it qualifies. A referral that qualified before rewards started is reviewed by HELM, which decides whether to grant it. If these terms change, a pro accepts the new terms before any further bonus is paid.
